Iago’s character

Othello gives a lecture on the topic of being mean and jealous which is orthodoxically seen as due to the reason for anybody to be over ambitious. The burden of the task is followed by the anti-hero Iago who is a personification of the devil and he laments for not being selected as the substitute of the aristocrat named Moor Othello and which was passed on to Cassio. Hence Iago makes up his mind to persuade Othello that his spouse is adulterous with Cassio. That very time Iago utilises the affection that Rodrigo has for Desdemona and compels the couple to separate and ensures that Othello and Desdemona are separated. Iago gets and ensures that Othello trusts him and everything gets under control. Rodrigo gets to know Iago’s motives and gets murdered by Iago when he comes in between Iago’s intentions and for this Rodrigo’s wife starts hating Iago and hence he murders her as well. Desdemona and Othello too die and Desdemona is killed by Othello before committing suicide. It is Iago who is the protagonist and also tagging himself the servant of Moor Othello. However not everything was a bed of roses since Iago hates himself since loved Desdemona and also appointed Cassio as minister. This has been the plot of the play as was written by Shakespeare and from this very point Iago plots it from the very inception of the play that he will ensure that Othello hates and does not trust Desdemona and Cassio as well. From this perspective we can say that Iago was a very wicked person having all malicious intentions in order to put into effect is plans. This can be seen all the more about Iago’s character when accidently Desdemona unnoticed her handkerchief and Iago gives it to Othello and creates more misunderstanding and proves about the jealous streak in Iago. Since the handkerchief was a gift from Moor’s mother it was a very important thing and Iago very selfishly uses such a piece as to create misunderstanding just to sort his revenge and to gain power. Iago’s character personifies hatred, being corrupt and disloyal because this is what he has been portraying to all the rest of the characters in the play. He speaks and lies to everyone and for this reason he has been named as the Honest Iago which is ironical to the true self of his.
