JAIPUR CITY GUIDE
Rajasthan’s
state capital is Jaipur and it is the largest capital of in the Northern India
and it was established by Maharaja Sawai jai Singh II the King of Amber in the
year 1727 and today it has a population over 3 million and Jaipur is popularly
known as the Pink City of India. Jaipur has unique set of streets which is wide
from most of the Indian roads and the urban billets are divided into an array
of grids and networks. The famous Hawa
Mahal is a palace within a complex with gardens and a small water tank inside
its enclosure. The Nahargarrh Fort is the presidential palace of the King and
is at the peak of the Northwest corner of the mountain in the city. Jantar
Mantar is an observatory that has a world importance in heritage and also
includes the Golden Triangle which is the part of the promotional unit of
tourism in India along with Delhi and Agra and Jaipur is extremely famous and
popular destination for the tourists visiting India and Rajasthan and also a
very popular destination for vacation amongst the Indians as well for its rich
and varied culture and the forts that draws our attention with such Rajput
style of architecture. The city of Jaipur is maintained by the civic
authorities and the head of the Municipality is the CEO of the Rajasthan
Administrative Service which has 91 wards and is corresponded by a member who
has been elected by the Corporation.
Jaipur
was established by Raja Jai Singh II of Amer who was the king from 1688-1743
and founded Jaipur in 1727 and made Dausa as the capital which was 51 kilometres
away from Jaipur. The shortage of water and ever growing population made the
Raja to shift his capital to Jaipur and referred to many architects in order to
lay the plan of structuring the city of Jaipur. It was under Vidyadhar Bhattacharya
primarily the accounts clerk of the Amer reserves was later promoted to the
rank of being the Chief architecture of Jaipur and developed the city according
to the Hindu scientific laws of laying the foundation of building a city namely
the Vastu Shastra. It took four years for the construction of palaces and roads
of the city and the city was bifurcated into nine blocks of which two belonged
to the state head and the rest of the seven blocks were for the public at
large. During the visit of the price of Wales, the King ordered to get the
entire city painted into pink colour and thus the city gets its name, this
gives a different and distinct appearance to the city. The city started growing
at a rapid pace with industries started settling up in the 19th
century and industries of metals and marble were the primary industries and
through it the famous Madrasa Hunree was developed and established as a school
for art and culture in the year 1868. In the year 1865 the Sanskrit College
came into existence and along with it the King also furnished funds for the
school towards the empowerment and academics and making woman educated in the
year 1867 and opened a girl’s school. The Rajput was a wealthy clan and the
Marwari’s being the natives were a society of bankers and money lenders. The
Maharaja named Rishabh Bhawani Singh a member of the King’s family was laid to
rest in 2011 following failure of multiple organs.
Jaipur
experience a semi-arid type of a climate being in the desert region it has all
the desert type of a climate being very hot during the day time and cool after
sunset. The temperature rises to a maximum of 48degrees Celsius during the
summer months and comes down to 15degrees Celsius during the winter months.
Very light woollens are required during the cold months. The region experiences
rainfall as less as just 26 inches per year and mostly during the monsoon
seasons between June to September with thunderstorms but with no flood like
situation.
As
per the 2011 Census the population of Jaipur is 03,073,350 which is a 31.2%
rise in the population in a decade and according to the National Bureau of
Crime records Jaipur has the highest number of crimes committed all across
India and is the third highest in the list of thirty five cities of India which
is one million and more than any other crime rate number in the country.
Jaipur
is ranked thirty first as the most Emerging Global Outsourcing Cities of Indian
sub-continent as laid down according to a survey held in the year 2008.
Companies like Genpact, Deutsche Bank Group Jaipur, and the BPO of Infosys have
all their software development centred here at Jaipur. Jaipur has the largest
IT SEZ for the Mahindra in the country and it’s a venture that is jointly
operated by the Mahindra group of company as well as RIICO. It is almost 3
thousand acres and the largest job provider in Jaipur. The Gaurav Tower is a
primary activity centre for economic movement in the city of Jaipur.
Jaipur
is a major tourist place destination in India and is ranked as the seventh best
place to visit in Asia as laid down by the Conde Nast traveller readers Choice
Survey in the year 2008. The CNN’s world’s most expensive hotel suites
according to 2012 are in Jaipur and that is The Presidential Suite of the Raj
Palace hotel which bills an individual for US$ 45,000 per night.
City
of Jaipur can be reached by either of the three ways of transportation since it
is well connected by the national Highways for the road service which links to
almost all the major cities with city buses being operated from the city terminus
and is also in the zone of Indian railways of the North Western Zone and
connects Delhi and all the major metro cities of the country. Jaipur
International Airport is ten kilometres away from Jaipur city and it is in a
satellite town of Sanganer which has a large fleet of domestic and
international flights.
The
major places of interest in the city of Jaipur are like the famous Hawa Mahal,
Jal Mahal, City Palace, Jantar Mantar, Amer Fort, Jaigarh Fort, Nahargarh Fort,
Sri Kali Mandir, Jaipur Zoological Botanical Garden and the Sanganeri Gate. The
Town hall has been converted into a museum and it narrates the Rajasthan
culture, Albert hall Museum, Jawaharlal kala Kendra and Ravindra Manch are the
few centres of development of culture in the city of Jaipur.
