DELHI CITY GUIDE
Delhi
is the National Capital of India and has a population of approximate 27 million
making it to rank the second in the list of the most populous city of the
nation. Delhi grows beyond the National Capital territory and has expanded
itself into the nearby neighbouring state as Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and is
known as the National Capital Region governing Gurgaon, Noida, Greater Noida,
Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Sonepat, Rewari, Bhiwadi, Bharatpur, Meerut, Alwar,
karnal, Rohtak and also other adjoining towns and cities. New Delhi is governed
by the Federal Government of the Nation as well as the Government of Delhi
being a union territory as well. The city has always been occupied and ruled
since the 6Th century BC and along its glorious past lies down its
history which served Delhi as being the capital for various sovereign rulers
that kept ruling over the country from time to time and with the passage of
time Delhi has been the seat for the central administration down the different
empires and various kingdoms. The city was held captive by intruders and was
looted, plundered and vandalized but was again built especially during the
Medieval era and the contemporary city of New Delhi is a collection of a number
of various cities which is spread all over the cosmopolitan province. In the
year 1526 Babur defeated the last Lodi sultan in the Battle of Panipat and
founded the Mughal Empire which ruled for more than three centuries before it
came under the reign of the British Empire.
Delhi
is situated on a triangle formation by the river Yamuna on its East and it
branches from the Aravali Mountains in the West and the South. It is bounded by
Haryana on all its sides barring the Eastern part where it shares its border
with Uttar Pradesh. Delhi has a hot and dry climate with an extreme in its
temperatures during the summer and the winter months.
As
per the archaeological artefacts it is believed that human inhabited the
present Delhi land even during the second millennium BC and it is also assumed
that the location of the Indraprasth the renowned capital of the Pandavas of
the epic of Mahabharata. Among the many rulers Prithvi Raj Chauhan was the last
of the entire Rajput rulers over Delhi.
During
the early 13th Century Delhi passed successively into five empires
since the Turkish took over till the Afghans made Delhi their dynasty. They
constructed a series of forts, monuments, and settlements which form the part
of the seven communities of New Delhi. In the year 1526 Zahiruddin Babur
defeated the last Lodhi Sultan to form the Mughal Empire in the Battle of
Plassey and later after decades of being the sovereign head Delhi came under
the reign of the British after the revolt of the Indian Rebellion of 1857. The British
first declared Calcutta as the capital of the country since that was the seat
of the Viceroy but in the year 1911 they chose Delhi as the seat of the capital
and it was declared a union territory only after its much received independence
in the year 1947 and framing its constitution or the law of the land in the
year of 1956 and since that day it is celebrated as the Republic Day all across
the nation.
After
the much sought independence it is celebrated on the 15th of August
1947 Delhi was proclaimed as the capital of the Indian Republic and the 69th
constitutional revision of it was a milestone to be achieved in the history of
Delhi. In the year 1991 Delhi was yet again made the National Capital Territory
and it comprises of 9 districts, including 158 villages and embracing a decent
62 towns under its authority.
Delhi
being the capital of India it acts as the pivotal point for all the political
activities and the major political decisions is either made or un-made here at Delhi,
it is one of the oldest city of being ruled entirely by an imperial influence
and control. Delhi is the hub of all the administrative command since the time
of the colonial dominance. It is growing and emerging into the centre for trade
and commerce as well building itself for a strong corporate player in the
nation.
Delhi
primarily grows and has major plantation of the wheat, jowar, bajra, gram,
maize but now it has also shifted into cultivating food crops of the vegetable
and fruit sector as well along with it farming of the poultry and dairy as
these give more returns than just merely cropping food crops in the territorial
region of Delhi.
Delhi
is not only the largest commercial hub in the northern part of India but it is
also the largest core to encourage small scale industries as well. A large
number of manufacturing companies ranging from the production of the television
set, automobiles, sports products, bicycles, PVC products and even into the IT
and software production. Delhi is pivot for all the IT sector companies and
provides the breeding ground for their expansion and thereby helping Delhi’s
economy as well along with these industries are the handloom, handicrafts,
fashion and textile industry which contribute to the ever growing economy of
Delhi.
Every
year Delhi appeals a large number of tourists and there are innumerable place
of interest that attracts these tourist and is divided into three categories:
The Governmental buildings, the historical monuments which is all left behind
by the empires who have ruled over Delhi and the third place of interest are
the religious places. Out of which few deserve a special mention like the India
Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Jama Masjid,
Jantar Manter, Lakshmi Narayan mandir, Birla Temple and the Bahai temple also
commonly known as the Lotus temple.
City

in Delhi. A major inclusion is Dilli Haat where it lays down the different
